PERSEUS Audio Files

Below are some sample audio clips of MW DX. Some are common East Coast North American stations, some are difficult DX. Some are audio comparisons with other receivers. All recorded from Perseus unless stated otherwise.

Some of the initial clips were using fast AGC, and seemed to "pump" a bit. Re recordings have beeen made of most.

PERSEUS GENERAL AUDIO SAMPLE Audio example of a daytime MW station (Forth AM 1548) using (1) PERSEUS beta 0.3, followed by (2) beta 0.2, and lastly (3) beta 0.1. All audio level settings were identical (549k) new feb 08

LESS COMMON / WEAKER STATIONS (NOW IN FREQ ORDER)

CFBC, ST JOHN NB 930 Often heard in the mix with CJYQ, though the latter usually dominant. 5/12/07 2300 (175k)

WWJ, Detroit, MI 950 1st Feb o8. A personal 1st for me, noted at 0800, with CKNB fading at exactly the right time. Includes good CKNB id. (192k) new feb 08

WHBY, Kimberly, WI 1150 10/12/07 0000. This station is 2kHz away from ILR Glasgow about 25 miles away. Have a good lobe on the beverage though, and it usually presents no real problem. This stn can be very much better than this clip. (219k)

WPHT, PHILADELPHIA, PA 1210kHz Difficult channel in Scotland, or certainly here, due to Virgin Radio. 5/12/07 2259 (431k)

CFRW, WINNIPEG, MB 1290 31/12/07 (93k) new feb 08

WMBF, BINGHAMPTON, NY 1290 6/12/07 0000. This was discovered in a PERSEUS file in Feb 08, recorded the same night Big L was off air, and WEGP was belting in. The audio during record on this one perhaps shows up the audio ticking some dxers have noticed. 1st ID usb, 2nd AM, 3rd Sync AM. The ticking during the usb recording has been enhanced somewhat by dragging the selected bandwidth neared to the carrier. The ticking is also noticed on AM and SAM, and is a very similar sound to that given off by the NRD545 while trying to listen on AM. (396k) new feb 08

WCCW, TRAVERSE CITY, MI 1310kHz, Personal 1st for this ESPN station. 9/12/07 0840utc. Poor signal. This is using sync AM mode, SAM Incidentally I am informed this is a UK first, therefore as far as is known, a Perseus first for a UK first !! (92k)

WBSM, New Bedford, MA 1420 29th January 08. A personal 1st noted at 0800. 0800 ID repeated 3 times, then 0804 id. (318k) new feb 08

WHIC, Rochester, NY 1460 10/12/07 0100. Personal 1st. The station of the cross. Weak recording (440k)

WBKV, West Bend, WI 1470 9/12/07 1100. A welcome late fade out (301k)

KCKK, CO 1510 9/12/07 1100. Paul C in Troon alerted me to an ID he has on tape from exactly 1100 on Sunday 9th Dec. He is about 20 miles from me, but I had no sign of his possible KFNN, and vice versa!! * NB This is very weak many hours after local sunrise, and a test of the PERSEUS. I was not at the receivers to make a signal check against a traditional receiver. KCKK is at 7s. (248k)

WEGP, PRESQUE ISLE, ME 1390kHz Recorded on a night BIG L / Radio London was off air. 6th December 2007. 2221utc Recorded on PERSEUS. As above but slow AGC AM 12kHz. (603k) new feb 08

WEGP, PRESQUE ISLE, ME 1390kHz Recorded on a night BIG L / Radio London was off air. 6th December 2007. 2234utc from the reputed poor audio set, NRD545. Includes a very silly discaimer during a commercial. (252k)

WEGP, PRESQUE ISLE, ME 1390kHz Recorded on a night BIG L / Radio London was off air. 6th December 2007. 2235utc This time certainly from the HF225 Europa. Great audio on that little set (406k)

WEGP, PRESQUE ISLE, ME 1390kHz Recorded on a night BIG L / Radio London was off air. 6th December 2007. 2240 approx, switching from 1) HF225 to 2) AOR7030 to 3) NRD515 (687k)

Radio London / Big L, 1395kHz carrier returning to the air.

BIG L after a few minutes, the audio is seen to be spreading more.

The above screen shot is of Radio London / BIG L returning to 1395kHz after a break. QRG is shown by the pointer. The top image, the carrier comes on and audio is a quiet track, but the second image shows the much wider audio after a few minutes.

It is my intention to add more audio clips inc SW and SSB from top band etc. It all takes time.
